English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program is designed to provide students with the academic English skills necessary to succeed in their studies. The program consists of six levels, from Elementary to Advanced Plus, and is delivered over 10 weeks, with two 5-week modules per level.

The EAP program is a pre-university study program that aims to equip students with the language and academic skills required to pursue higher education. The program focuses on teaching academic language, study skills, and critical thinking, and is designed to prepare students for success in their chosen field of study.

Program Structure

• The program consists of six levels: Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, Advanced, and Advanced Plus.
• Each level is delivered over 10 weeks, with two 5-week modules.
• Classes are held from Monday to Friday, with 20 hours of scheduled classes per week.
• Students are expected to complete at least one hour of independent study per day.

Admission Requirements

• Students must have a valid English language proficiency test result, such as IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE.
• Students without a valid English language proficiency test result can take a placement test at RMIT UP.
• The minimum English language requirements for each level are as follows:
  • Elementary: IELTS 3.5, TOEFL 50, PTE 50
  • Pre-Intermediate: IELTS 4.0, TOEFL 50, PTE 50
  • Intermediate: IELTS 4.5, TOEFL 60, PTE 60
  • Upper-Intermediate: IELTS 5.0, TOEFL 60, PTE 60
  • Advanced: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 70, PTE 70
  • Advanced Plus: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, PTE 80

Tuition Fees

• The tuition fee for the EAP program is AU$545 per week.
• The enrolment fee is AU$260.
• Students are required to pay for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and living expenses.

Assessment and Evaluation

• Students are assessed through a range of tasks, quizzes, and final assessments.
• The assessment criteria include grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
• Students must complete all assessments to complete each level of the program.

Career Opportunities

• The EAP program is designed to prepare students for further study at RMIT University or other higher education institutions.
• Students who complete the Advanced or Advanced Plus level can pathway into many RMIT courses without needing to complete a further English language test.
