Master's Programme in Literature with a Specialization in General and Swedish Literature

The Master's Programme in Literature is a two-year, full-time program that delves into literary texts of various genres, their historical and social contexts, and the new ways in which they function today. The language of instruction is Swedish.

Programme Overview

The programme consists of obligatory and optional courses, allowing students to tailor their studies to fit their interests. It also offers the possibility of gaining work experience or studying abroad. Students will develop a firm command of scholarly thought and method and practice the use of English as their academic working language.

Specialization in General and Swedish Literature

The specialization in General and Swedish Literature provides a broad grasp of literary studies, relating Swedish and international literature through comparative approaches. The programme includes courses on the theory of interpretation and narrative, literary classics and their reception history, critical perspectives on the relationship between literature and society, and current theoretical perspectives in literary studies.

Eligibility and Admission

To be eligible for the programme, students must have a Degree of Bachelor or equivalent in the relevant main field of study and English proficiency equivalent to English 6 in Swedish upper secondary school. Additionally, Swedish proficiency equivalent to Swedish 3 in Swedish upper secondary school is required for the specialization in General and Swedish Literature.

Programme Structure

The programme is offered by the Department of Culture and Aesthetics at the Faculty of the Humanities. It consists of 120 credits and is held every autumn. The programme code is HMPLO, and the specialization code is ALLM.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee applies to citizens from outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland. The first instalment is 45,000 SEK, and the complete course fee is available upon request.
