Program Overview


Course Overview

The course further strengthens and deepens the knowledge of Korean grammar and exercises the ability to read texts. It also exercises the ability to write texts in Korean on both social and more abstract topics.


Course Structure

The course has three modules:


  • Literacy 3, 7.5 credits: This module further strengthens and deepens the knowledge of Korean grammar and exercises the ability to read texts. It consists of text reading that includes grammatical analysis and text analysis. The module also includes practice in translating texts from Korean and methodological discussion in translation techniques.
    • Topics covered include:
      • Grammatical analysis
      • Text analysis
      • Translation techniques
  • Literacy 4, 7.5 credits: This module continues Literacy 3 with studies of medium-difficult texts in modern standard Korean. It consists of text reading that includes grammatical analysis and text analysis. The module also includes practice in translating texts from Korean and methodological discussion in translation techniques.
    • Topics covered include:
      • Advanced grammatical analysis
      • In-depth text analysis
      • Sophisticated translation techniques
  • Writing ability, 7.5 credits: This module exercises the ability to write simpler explanatory texts and assignments as well as to read and discuss Korean texts in various subject areas based on the course literature.
    • Topics covered include:
      • Explanatory writing
      • Assignment writing
      • Text discussion

Teaching Format

The teaching is in the form of seminars and group exercises. Attendance at all classes is mandatory.


Assessment

  • Literacy 3 and 4: These modules are examined through a class writing or other supervised examination at the end of the modules.
  • Writing skills: This module is examined through a hall exam or other supervised exam.
