Humanities Research: Critical Studies in Art and Culture
Overview
The Critical Studies in Art and Culture track focuses on current developments within four main disciplines: visual arts, architecture, design, and media.
Program Structure
- Duration: 2 years
- Type: Full-time
- Language of Instruction: English
Academic Focus
- Boundaries: The program examines the integration of art, architecture, design, and media as they are increasingly packaged as 'creative industries.' Students will query traditional disciplinary boundaries while developing a thorough grounding in both historical and contemporary disciplines, including:
- Art history
- Architectural history
- Design culture
- Media studies
- Contexts and Networks: The curriculum emphasizes the social, institutional, economic, and ideological contexts in which cultural artifacts and media are produced and circulated. Students will gain analytical and critical tools essential for evaluating these contexts. The interconnectedness of the four disciplines is a focal point, exploring both their specific potential and limitations.
