Aviation English Courses
Course Focus
In the aviation industry, proficiency in the English language is paramount, given the immense responsibility that practitioners have for the safety of millions of travelers. Effective communication is crucial to ensure passenger safety, as demonstrated by numerous accident investigations which indicate that miscommunication can lead to significant incidents.
According to a resolution from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), all pilots and air traffic controllers engaged in international operations are mandated to achieve a minimum English language proficiency level, defined as the ICAO Operational Level 4. This Aviation English course is tailored for professionals in the aviation sector who require flawless communication skills to comply with international standards. The course content adheres to ICAO requirements and emphasizes six core language skills:
- Pronunciation
- Structure
- Vocabulary
- Fluency
- Comprehension
- Interactions
Course Content
The course is designed to meet ICAO's holistic descriptors aimed at optimizing flight safety through clear communication. It equips students with the necessary language tools to:
- Check for understanding
- Confirm information
- Resolve complications and misunderstandings
- Manage unexpected and/or problematic situations
The integration of various linguistic elements (lexis, grammar, pronunciation, etc.) allows for a comprehensive approach to learning, in which all four language skills are developed in a context pertinent to aviation. This includes practical components such as voice-over and face-to-face dialogues, reinforced through role-play activities.
After completing a needs analysis questionnaire, a customized course program will be tailored to the specific requirements of each student.
