Public & International Affairs

The two-year Masters in Public and International Affairs prepares Canada's future leaders for today's global challenges. It possesses three distinguishing features:

1. Bilingual Requirement: Students are required to take one-third of their courses and complete assignments in both of Canada's official languages.
2. Integration of Theory and Practice: The program combines academic knowledge with practical instruction. Instructors consist of both academics and practitioners, teaching students to write briefing notes and memos for senior government officials. A paid supervised internship with a government department, an international agency, or a non-governmental organization is included. Students wishing to pursue an academic path may undertake a major research paper in their final year.
3. Multidisciplinary and Integrative Approach: The curriculum exposes students to various methodological approaches and skills. The second-year Capstone Seminar is designed to integrate these diverse aptitudes within a dynamic learning environment.

A strong international component is inherent in the program, encouraging second-year students to participate in a one-term exchange or to pursue a double master's degree in collaboration with the Université de Strasbourg in France. The program boasts a high success rate in placing graduates in meaningful roles within the federal or provincial civil service, as well as in international organizations or local entities.
