Course Description

This course is designed for individuals aspiring to become support workers specialized in providing services to the aged, whether in residential or community-based settings. As a practitioner in this field, the support worker will be responsible for their actions within the established guidelines of their organization. They are expected to uphold the quality of service while developing, facilitating, and reviewing individualized service plans.

Work in this role may require the demonstration of leadership qualities, ensuring maximum efficiency and quality of service delivery within defined parameters.

Entry Requirements

The following are the admission requirements for the Certificate IV in Ageing Support:

• Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
• Prospective students may be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment and/or a pre-enrolment interview.
• Must have completed Australian Year 11 or an equivalent level of schooling or hold a Certificate III or higher qualification from an Australian institution.
• Must demonstrate a level of English proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 overall, with no band less than 5.5 or an equivalent score in other assessments such as:

  • PTE 50
  • CAE 169
  • OET B
  • General English Advanced
  • MOI Certificate
  • Duolingo 95
  • MET
  • LANGUAGECERT Academic
  • CELPIP General
  • A Certificate IV or higher qualification from an Australian institution.
• Must possess basic digital literacy, including the capability to effectively use the internet and common software applications for learning, completing assignments, and engaging with course content.
• Must be able to participate in training within a simulated workplace environment, including performing manual handling tasks.

Award Requirements

Upon successful completion of the course CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support, candidates will be awarded a certificate of completion. Candidates who partially complete the necessary units will receive a "Statement of Attainment" for all units deemed competent.

Vocational Placement

This qualification necessitates that learners complete at least 120 hours of work placement in a regulated care service organization in Australia. Completion of work placement is critical to consolidating the knowledge gained throughout the course.

Mandatory requirements before starting work placement (at the student's expense):

• National Police Check 30 days before placement.
• Completion of a first aid course (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid).
• Evidence of current Influenza Vaccination as of May 1, 2020, onwards.

Pathway From Qualification

Graduates of the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support may advance to the CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services.
