Programme Overview

Critically explore historic and contemporary art first-hand and discover different aspects of art business – from museums and commercial galleries to art fairs. This course combines first-hand research and analysis into why art is produced, when, where, by whom and for whom.

You'll experience:

• Engaging content: Includes the curation and circulation of art throughout history.
• Interdisciplinary learning: Explore art in relation to business, fashion, and more.
• Hands-on study: Learn from professional artists, curators, and conservators.
• A central location: Join talks, tours, and workshops in London's prized galleries.

Learning Outcomes

Built on a strong chronological structure, from the Renaissance and the Baroque through to Modernism and the present, key themes underpinning this course include:

• The exploration of both historic and contemporary techniques.
• Examination of how and why particular works of art are displayed at art fairs, auction houses, public museums, and commercial galleries.
• A critical view on how political, cultural, and gendered narratives shape our understanding of art.

Throughout your time at Regent's, you will build relationships with academics and industry insiders, and have opportunities to join talks and workshops with professionals from various art sectors.

International Trips

Students have the opportunity to enrich their learning with international trips. Recently, students visited Paris, where they engaged with institutions such as the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay, deepening their understanding of art, culture, and history.

Graduates and Careers

Recent graduates have founded art platforms and advisory firms, been appointed to historic museums, auction houses, art fairs, and commercial galleries, and worked as consultants and coordinators for international brands. Examples of former students' career paths include:

• Marketing Manager at TEFAF.
• Co-Founder of an independent art advisory firm in Cairo and New York.

Graduate visa

After completion of the course, graduates may be eligible to apply for a Graduate visa, allowing them to work or seek employment in the UK for up to 18 months.

Course Structure

Year 1

Core Modules

• Art Now: Exploration of contemporary art through various media and issues such as globalization and identity.
• Baroque Art: Faith, Crown and Commerce: Study of the impact of religious changes on seventeenth-century art.
• Situating Art: Introduction to art history methods and exploration of distinct social, cultural, and political contexts.
• Renaissance Art and Society: Examination of the transition from medieval art to Renaissance individualism in artistry.
• Learning Perspectives: Development of collaborative, critical, and reflective learning.

Elective Modules

Choose two from:

• London Perspectives: Investigation of relationships between various subject areas and London.
• Global Perspectives: Group exploration of contemporary intercultural, political, and ethical issues.
• Language (Grades 1-6): Options include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

Year 2

Core Modules

• Art in the Age of Revolution: Tracing cultural currents from the Enlightenment to Impressionism.
• Interpreting Art: Developing critical skills through examination of art discussions in print and digital media.
• The Art Business: Analysis of art's consumption and marketing in a global context.

Elective Modules

Industry & Entrepreneurship Modules

Choose one:

• Entrepreneurial Challenge: Development of entrepreneurial thinking and project creation.
• Industry Challenge: Engagement with real work projects for personal and professional development.
• Placement: Experience in external organizations applying theoretical knowledge to real-life challenges.

Year 3

Core Modules

• Twentieth Century Modernisms: Exploring concepts of Modernism through significant movements in the twentieth century.
• Art and the Environment: Investigation of art's engagement with the natural world from the fifteenth century to present.
• Major Project I: The first part of a significant self-directed project showcasing students' learning and interests.
• Major Project II: Completion and realization of the Major Project.

Tuition Fees

• Tuition fee: £24,500 per year, fixed for the duration of the course.
• Non-refundable advance deposit:
  • UK students: £1,500
  • Non-UK students: £5,000

Academic Requirements: Year 1 Entry

To be considered for entry, applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

• Three GCE A-levels at grades A-C.
• 24 points in the International Baccalaureate.
• Alternatively, equivalent qualifications as deemed acceptable.

English Language Requirements

Minimum English proficiency is required through one of the following:

• GCSE English language: C (4)
• IELTS (Academic): 6.0 overall, with at least 5.5 in each component.
