With a dual focus on content and pedagogy, the Anderson University Secondary English Education offers a hands-on approach for teacher candidates who want to teach English in a high school setting.Why Secondary English Education from AUSecondary English educators must develop the skills and have the disposition to help a diverse student population pursue the life path best suited for them. Educators must be prepared to mentor and develop the student who pursues higher education as well as those entering the workforce after high school. Therefore, our teacher candidates are taught to focus on building the profile of a South Carolina graduate, including life and career characteristics that transfer to any career like integrity, perseverance, worth ethic, and interpersonal skills.Our dual focus allows teacher candidates to gain knowledge in their specific content as well as how to teach the content (pedagogy). Our Best Practices I & II courses helps teacher candidates to gain the best teaching practices, while the English curriculum focuses on developing their own passion for literature to help students find their passion for reading. Over the course of your studies, you will take two literacy courses as part of the Read to Succeed endorsement, which all AU graduates receive.AU’s College of Education has strong partnerships with local school districts. Both public and private. Dozens of school districts visit AU’s campus for our annual networking event to interview our teacher candidates. Many students end the day with job offers or opportunities to pursue from multiple districts. AU students are strongly positioned to enter the workforce as both their skill set, and character are in high demand in the classroom. Local school districts seek AU’s education graduates first because of how prepared our students are to enter the classroom after graduation.
