About Program
Program Overview
Who Should Pursue This Degree If you work (or intend to work) in business processes and information integration as an IT security professional, data analyst, project manager, information manager, or even as a CIO, SPU's MS-IS program is for you. We prepare managers who want to know how to apply IT and information systems to solve problems in organisations. We also serve systems analysts or designers who need a broader understanding of how information systems impact and define organisational structures and processes. Benefits As a student in the MS-IS program, you will: Provide values-based leadership in the planning, development, and management of information and systems. Benefit from a cooperative and reciprocal learning environment. Effectively integrate information systems with business strategies, processes, and decision making. Evaluate the effects of information systems on organisations and personnel, and assist in managing the resultant transitions. Communicate effectively, work in teams, manage projects, self-assess personal abilities, appreciate diversity, and demonstrate servant leadership. “Another Way of Doing Business” The MS-IS program at SPU is built on an ethical foundation that offers a first-class business education through the lens of Christian faith and values. Among other things, you will take at least two ethics classes. You will see that your professors integrate ethical issues throughout the curriculum. The School of Business, Government, and Economics also operates the Center for Integrity in Business and publishes Ethix journal. A Flexible Format The MS-IS program is responsive to the needs of working professionals, and courses are offered in the evenings to accommodate your work schedule. We're committed to keeping red tape, bureaucracy, and forms to a minimum. Classes are smaller, allowing you to get involved with your professors (no TAs) and fellow students in a cooperative and reciprocal learning environment. You can also personalize your degree through self-designed coursework to incorporate your real-time experience into program electives. Mentor Program To enhance your MS-IS experience, we offer a Mentor Program that gives you access to more than 900 business people and professionals from a variety of companies, industries, roles, and levels of experience. Mentors are available to meet with you one-on-one, as sources of information about their companies and as network resources for future contacts. You may participate with one mentor for one quarter or multiple mentors over multiple quarters. Career Services We offer a robust suite of career and professional development opportunities including career counseling, job-search coaching, résumé development, workshops and seminars, networking events, and mentoring through SBGE Career Services.
