About Program

Program Overview

Our modern languages pathway is the opportunity for you to learn either Chinese Mandarin, French or Spanish alongside your studies in English literature. As part of this, you will undertake a beginner or post-GCSE module in your chosen language, which will equate to two hours of language classes and one hour of cultural studies per week. Forming part of this is the cultural awareness class, which introduces you to the history, culture, institutions, politics and literature of your chosen language. In your final year you’ll be able to tailor your learning with the opportunity to study for specific purposes, for example languages for business, which can offer you insight and experience of your chosen future career path.

By choosing to study English literature with a modern language at DMU, you’ll join a lively and welcoming academic community. Enjoy getting involved in the student-led English society and going on theatre trips across the UK as part of your course. Our graduates from this course progress into a wide range of professions including media, marketing, publishing, teaching, public relations and the civil service.
