Program Overview

Learn 2 major, international languages and study abroad for a year as you get to know a foreign culture first hand. You’ll complement your language learning with modules on history, modern society and linguistics on this French and German degree.

You'll have the opportunity to:

start at a level that matches your ability in spoken and written French and German.

spend a year abroad in year 3, in either a work placement, a British Council placement or at one of Southampton’s partner universities

complement your language learning with modules on history, contemporary society, literature and linguistic studies

In your final year you can specialise in an area that suits your interests and combines well with what you’ve studied so far.

You’ll have a range of resources to support you, including the

Centre for Language Study

which offers  language and academic advising on a one-to-one basis.

You can also prepare a final year dissertation with guidance from a supervisor.
