Program Overview
Communication skills
Vital to professional automotive engineers, these skills are developed in communications and information technology modules. You’ll explore the whole spectrum of communication media, from chalk-and-talk to state-of-the-art computer software presentation packages.
Professional recognition
BEng (Hons) - Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
The accredited BEng (Hons) will meet, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer and Students will need to complete an approved format of further learning pursuant to the requirements of UKSPEC. The accredited BEng (Hons) will also automatically meet in full, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).
MEng - Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
The accredited MEng fully meets the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements, for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Careers and graduate prospects
We offer
careers information, advice and guidance
to all students whilst studying with us, which is extended to our alumni for three years after leaving the University.Over the last decade, our employment figures have been among the best in the UK. In the
Graduate Outcomes survey 2022
, results show that 95 per cent of our undergraduate mechanical engineering sciences students go on to employment or further study. Most of our graduates proceed directly to employment in an engineering profession. Typical automotive engineering careers span a wide range of areas, including design, research and development, testing and manufacturing.
Employers include some of the most famous names in engineering, motorsport, aerospace, energy and research. A significant number of students also continue their education at Surrey and elsewhere.
Recent graduates from our automotive engineering courses have entered employment in roles such as:
Program Outline
Academic year structure
The academic year is divided into two semesters of 15 weeks each. Each semester consists of a period of teaching, revision/directed learning and assessment.
