Program Overview

Special Educational Needs, Disability & Inclusion (SENDI) and Theology, Philosophy & Ethics

Course Overview

This course combines the study of Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion (SENDI) with Theology, Philosophy and Ethics. It is designed to equip students with a critical understanding of sociological, psychological and philosophical values that shape SENDI, as well as the principles of Theology, Philosophy and Ethics.

Why Study This Course

This course is ideal for students who want to be advocates for change for atypical learners and explore how categories of need are created through divisions within social and educational systems. It also provides opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and understanding of different categories of need and acquire skills in meeting needs through examining theory and engaging in research-based placements.

Course Summary

The course covers the broad spectrum of SENDI, focusing on specific and more complex needs. It challenges students' own beliefs and values, as well as those of others, and enables them to become advocates for change. The Theology, Philosophy and Ethics component of the course explores the historical manifestations, key writings and Scripture, as well as the principal beliefs and practices of the three main religions of the west: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
