Undergraduate Qualifications

Applicants must possess a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification. This requirement applies to both UK/EU and international students. Specific degree requirements may vary depending on the chosen research area.


English Language Proficiency


For non-native English speakers, the following English language proficiency levels are required:

  • IELTS Academic module (not General Training): 6.5 overall with no sub-scores below 6.0.
  • The test must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of the program start date.
  • TOEFL (ibt, MyBest, or at-home edition): 79 overall with minimum scores of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking, and 21 in Writing.
  • The test must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of the program start date.
  • Pearson PTE Academic: 59 overall with a minimum of 59 in all subtests.
  • The test must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of the program start date.
  • Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): 176 overall with no sub-score below 169.
  • The test must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of the program start date.
  • Oxford English Test: Oxford ELLT 7 with R&L OIDI level no less than 6 (Reading: 21-24, Listening: 15-17) and W&S OIDI level no less than 6.
  • Degree from a majority-English speaking country: Applicants must have studied for a minimum of 2 years at the undergraduate level or 9 months at the Master's level within the last 6 years.
  • 2+2 undergraduate degree from a majority-English speaking country: Applicants must have completed their final two years of study in the last 6 years.

Note:

The University of Glasgow accepts evidence of English language proficiency from the English for Academic Study Unit Pre-sessional courses and other BALEAP accredited pre-sessional courses. However, they also accept any of the English tests listed above for admission to this program.
