About Program

Program Overview

The University of Glasgow's MSc in Brain Sciences is a research-oriented program that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the brain, from its molecular and cellular levels to its cognitive functions. The program emphasizes the integration of cognitive brain imaging with neuroscience and offers students access to cutting-edge research facilities and equipment. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, teaching, industry, and the public and private sectors.

Program Outline

The program emphasizes the integration of cognitive brain imaging with neuroscience, aligning with global trends in academia, industry, and the media.

Objectives:

  • Equip students with interdisciplinary knowledge "from molecules to mind"
  • Develop research skills in cognitive brain imaging, fundamental neuroscience, and brain disorders
  • Provide students with a solid foundation in the field of brain sciences to prepare them for further research or careers in the field.

Description:

The program is research-oriented, offering students the opportunity to work in labs equipped with cutting-edge technology and expertise. Students will have access to:

  • 3 Tesla fMRI system for imaging human brain function
  • Magnetoencephalography and electroencephalography for studying neural activity
  • Transcranial magnetic stimulation for non-invasive brain stimulation
  • 7 Tesla experimental MRI scanner for studying models of disease
  • Confocal microscopy for high-resolution cellular imaging
  • Models of disease for pharmacological, gene, and stem cell therapies
  • Students will also receive training in research design, data handling, data analysis, and reporting of results.
