The Music (with Foundation Year) BA (Hons) is a four-year course with an integrated foundation year that leads to the same qualification as our three-year BA honours degree. The foundation year provides essential academic skills, such as writing, communication, presentation, and collaboration, and helps build confidence in understanding the topic and associated reading. The course structure includes compulsory and optional modules, with a focus on musicology, analysis, performance, composition, critical theory, and more.

Course Structure

The course structure includes a foundation year and three subsequent years of study. The foundation year consists of essential skills for the arts and humanities, introduction to research and inquiry, and a foundation project. The subsequent years include modules such as adventures in the creative arts, melody and harmony, music since 1850, and genres and composers.
