Program Overview
Bangor University's Media Studies and Creative Writing program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of media and the creative writing industry. Through small group teaching, one-to-one supervision, and a vibrant Arts and Culture scene, students develop critical insights and practical skills for careers in the creative and cultural industries, education, and digital communications. The program also offers optional Placement and International Experience Years, enhancing students' employability and global perspectives.
Program Outline
Careers:
Media Studies and Creative Writing graduates go on to enter into a range of careers, often in the creative and cultural industries, the arts, education, and digital communications sectors. Our students also embark on postgraduate study and training in English Literature, Creative Writing, and related disciplines, so as to train as researchers and lecturers in higher education.

Program Highlights:
- Small group teaching and lectures and one-to-one supervision.
- Creative Writing is part of a vibrant Arts and Culture scene that includes Pontio, the University’s £40 million Arts Centre, local theatres, poetry groups and student societies.
- Former students have gone on to edit, publish and write creatively in a variety of literary fields and media contexts.
Additional Course Options:
- Placement Year: This course is available with a Placement Year option where you will study for 1 additional year. The Placement Year is undertaken at the end of the second year and students are away for the whole of the academic year.
- International Experience Year: This course is available with an International Experience Year option where you will study or work abroad for 1 additional year. You will have ‘with International Experience’ added to your degree title on graduating.

- A Levels: General Studies and Key Skills not normally accepted.
- BTEC National Extended Diploma: MMM - DDM
- Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma: MMM- DDM
- City & Guilds Advanced Technical Extended Diploma (1080): considered on a case-by-case basis
- International Baccalaureate Diploma: accepted
- Access: pass required
- Welsh Baccalaureate: We will accept this qualification in conjunction with other level 3 qualifications
- T Levels: T Levels in a relevant subject considered on a case-by-case basis
- Extended Project Qualification: Points can include a relevant Extended Project (EPQ) but must include a minimum 2 full A-levels, or equivalent.
The first year (or Year 0) is studied at Bangor University International College, an embedded College on our University campus and delivered by Oxford International Education Group.

Taught by experienced academics and published novelists and poets, this degree offers students valuable critical insight not only into the study of media, but the publishing industry itself, and part of what our lecturers can offer is the valuable insight needed to embark on your own career as a writer.
