About Program

Program Overview

The common understanding of 'politics' is that it is something that politicians do. But politics goes far beyond this, encompassing a wide array of social groups and institutions. The Study of Politics short course gives you the tools to study politics in its wide-ranging forms. You will learn about the character of argument and evidence in the study of politics and in the social sciences more broadly. It will help you to recognise the strengths and weaknesses in arguments concerning political events and processes and to analyse evidence and deploy it in your own work.

Assessment is via a bibliographical exercise (15%), essay plan (25%), 1200-word essay (50%) and seminar attendance (10%).

This can be taken as a standalone short course or as a part of:

  • Politics and International Studies (Certificate of Higher Education)

  • 30 credits at level 4
