About the Course
Course Outline
Our PhD Law programme requires an original contribution to the body of knowledge in a particular academic or professional discipline. It will take approximately three academic years to complete with full-time study and six years of part-time study.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants are normally expected to have a first or second class honours law (or law-related) degree or significant experience in law.
- Mature students are welcome to apply.
- International students are welcome to apply, and the University is a UKVI Student Sponsor.
- English language requirements apply.
Selection Process
- Wherever possible, applicants will be invited to the University for an informal interview and campus tour.
- International applicants may be interviewed via Microsoft Teams, email, or phone.
- A Research Proposal is required, which should outline the proposed topic of research and its contribution to the existing debate within the literature.
Teaching and Assessment
Quality Supervision
- The aim of the Research Programme is to help students develop a systematic and in-depth understanding in the subject area of choice of research.
- Students will be supervised by high-calibre staff with expertise in the relevant area.
High Calibre Staff
- Most academic staff teach for three terms out of four, with the remaining term used for research.
- This allows for high-calibre, highly respected lecturers to be attracted to the University.
Supervisory Methods
- Candidates will spend a considerable part of their studies undertaking supervised research.
- A thesis embodying the results of that research must be submitted at the end of the programme.
- The thesis must demonstrate familiarity with, and an understanding of the subject, its principal sources and authorities.
