Course Description

This action-packed, two-hour online training course is aimed at providing teachers with an essential tool kit to deliver effective and safe games and PE lessons. It is aimed at teachers who are supervising or teaching games when their specialism is not sport. The course is suitable for both secondary and primary staff, as well as sports graduates who have no teacher training.

Course Content

Session 1: How to Plan Safe Lessons

• Health and safety legal aspects and limitations to teaching PE
• Group management and use of space
• Clothing, equipment, and playing areas
• Organisation formats and running small competitions

Session 2: How to Plan and Deliver Exciting PE Lessons

• Basic teaching principles of games activities
• The what, who & how of lesson planning
• Planning lessons to incorporate health-related fitness and promote an understanding of wellbeing
• Understanding physical literacy
• A range of practises that can be adapted across several sports

Additional Resources

• Videos will be used for practical examples during delivery.
• A handbook of additional drills and activities will be provided.

• Integrating health-related fitness and promoting well-being understanding.
• Physical literacy development.
• Adaptable drills and activities across various sports.

Teaching:

• Delivery includes practical examples through video demonstrations.
• Participants receive a handbook of additional drills and activities.
• The application deadline is July 12, 2024.
• The course takes place on August 21, 2024 from 17:00 to 19:00.
• The cost is £300.
• This course is also offered as a one-day training at Akeley Wood School.
