PhD International Studies

Course Overview

The PhD International Studies is a research-based program that allows students to undertake supervised but independent research in the field of International Studies, with a focus on Political Theory, Political Science, and International Relations.


Entry Requirements

Applicants are normally expected to have a first or second-class, upper-division degree or significant experience. A Master's degree is preferred. Mature students and international students are welcome to apply.

We consider applications in all areas of International Studies, but particularly welcome applicants interested in areas that reflect the research interests of academic staff, including:

  • Freedom of Speech

Teaching and Assessment

The aim of the Research Programme is to help students develop a systematic and in-depth understanding in the subject area of choice of research by the student. The program includes:


  • Quality supervision
  • High-calibre staff
  • Supervisory methods, including the Research Methods Course and regular supervisory meetings
