Post Graduate Diploma in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Training
This 120 credit Post Graduate Diploma will be completed over one academic year and consists of three modules. These are
The Fundamentals of CBT
,CBT for Depression
andCBT for Anxiety
. The course is designed to support trainees in developing their levels of CBT competency and to be able to work with clients who experience common mental health problems. The training will enable students to be able to deliver CBT treatments at Step 3 of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) Stepped care approach.
This course runs annually and starts in March.
The course will start with a two week intensive teaching block and teaching days with the university will be Wednesday and Thursday thereafter. It is anticipated that the entirety of this course will be delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. Teaching will take place on Wednesday full day and Thursday half day with supervision groups taking place on Thursday afternoon.The recruitment for this course is completed in partnership with IAPT services. The application process will be managed by the IAPT service who will be advertising a Hight Intensity Trainee position. The university will then co-facilitate interviews with the employing service. Applicants should have a related healthcare degree with a minimum 2:2 award. Applicants should also either have a core healthcare profession or be able to demonstrate the successful completion of a Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (KSA) Portfolio. The Fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
During this module you will be introduced to the foundations of cognitive behaviour therapy. This will include an introduction to basic CBT theory as well as some of the therapy skills and techniques.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Depression
Develop an extended and critical understanding of the theoretical and research knowledge of CBT with depression and extend your practical competency in assessment, formulation and treatment skills for depression.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Anxiety Disorders
In this module, you'll develop an extended and critical understanding of the theoretical and research knowledge of CBT with anxiety disorders, extend practical competency in assessment, formulation and treatment skills for anxiety disorders.
To allow a more flexible approach to training many people choose to take their supervised practice modules after other parts of the course have been completed. This extends their training period beyond 2 years but is conducted entirely in their service context.
Teaching takes place one day per week (Weds/Thurs) from the University of Hull. Teaching days run from 9.15am-4.30pm. Each taught module runs over 10 - 12 weeks.
Methods of Evaluation
Assessment will take place throughout the course leading to production of an accreditation portfolio for those completing supervised practice modules. Assessment will include direct rating of clinical skills in all modules and a combination of essays, exams, case reports and reflective writing.
