The main educational aims of the module are to introduce the student to the role of the general practice nurse. Health promotion will form a thread throughout the module, whilst introducing the student to clinical skills such as RCN accredited National Health Service Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP) National Immunisation Programme, ear care and wound care to name a few.
Students will enhance their consultation and clinical examination skills and their problem solving, negotiation and study skills will be evidenced through the compilation of a practice based portfolio. Students will also be introduced to the contemporary issues of the general practice nurse.
The module will involve scrutinising government policies and students will critique and analyse the impact these have on their service delivery. Students will be working in a suitable clinical environment which allows them to reflect on the material covered in the module in relation to practice
