By critically evaluating the evidence, your own personal experience and that of others, you will be able to apply credible, timely solutions to compound problems in response to natural or man-made incidents wherever they occur. The module will run over three months and may be accessed completely on-line, with students working at their own pace and fitting their studies around their professional and personal lives. Summative assessment is a written assignment that will be agreed with your tutor at the beginning of the module. You will use your learning and formative evaluations throughout the module to shape your final assessment.

    Course summary

    This module will develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours preparing you to assess, plan, implement and evaluate safety programmes that will mitigate risks that your teams may face either in domestic settings or overseas. It will broaden and deepen your perception of your own role either as a planner or leader and it will help you to build resilience into your systems. We hope to assist you with shaping your ability to contribute more effectively to policy and doctrine developments that will ultimately improve yours and your team’s practise through transformative learning

    Timetables

    The teaching timetable should be available from the end of August. Access to the timetable is through the Student Hub – you will be able to access the Student Hub after you have completed online registration. The teaching day is 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday; please keep your other commitments open until confirmation of your teaching timetable, and bear in mind that many courses will offer placements or fieldwork which sometimes extends into the evenings and weekends.

    Entry Requirements

    The standard entry requirement for level 7 study is prior successful study at level 6 or level 7.

    This module is aimed at individuals who will be expected to operate in austere and/or hostile environments whilst engaged in humanitarian action.


    Selection criteria

    The Safety and Security module is offered as a 20 credit module. Learning is centred around studying real events and relating activity to your own profession.  You may study the module as standalone or as part of a Post-Graduate Certificate in Disaster Crisis and Humanitarian Response. This would require you to also complete the Disaster Response Module and the Humanitarian Action Module. If you wish to top up to a full Degree or Masters we would be pleased to discuss other CPD modules that are complementary to these.
