Program Overview

Physics is a truly international venture. This course follows the structure of the MSci Physics degree, but with the third year spent in Europe so you can experience life as a physicist in a different culture.

In line with our traditional curriculum, this course offers a comprehensive grounding in physics and mathematics, practical work in the laboratory, and computational physics

In your final year, back in Bristol, you will undertake a major project or dissertation. This will require you to work in a research group with a member of staff. Our students' final-year projects address questions at the frontier of our research fields. The most successful have been published in scientific journals.

    Progression/award requirements

    Unit Pass Mark for Undergraduate Programmes:

  • 40 out of 100 – for level C/4, I/5 & H/6 units
  • 50 out of 100 – for level M/7 units

    Exit awards

    All undergraduate degree programmes allow the opportunity for a student to exit from a programme with a Diploma or Certificate of Higher Education.

  • To be awarded a Diploma of Higher Education, a student must have successfully completed 240 credit points, of which at least 90 must be at level 5.
  • To be awarded a Certificate of Higher Education, a student must have successfully completed 120 credit points at level 4.
  • Integrated Master's degrees may also allow the opportunity for a student to exit from the programme with an equivalent Bachelor's degree where a student has achieved 360 credit points, of which 90 must be at level 6, and has successfully met any additional criteria as described in the programme specification.

    The opportunities for a student to exit from one of the professional programmes in Veterinary Science, Medicine, and Dentistry with an Award is outlined in the relevant Programme Regulations (which are available as an annex in the Regulations and Code of Practice for Taught Programmes).


    Additional progress information

    For progression to the second year students should gain at least 50% in a Level 4 language unit and 50% in physics and mathematics at Level 4 overall across the first year.
