Program Overview
This MSc programme combines principles from mechanics, electronics, control, computers, automation and robotics to design, manufacture and test smart and cognitive systems and devices, which utilise a combination of these disciplines.
This will enable you to gain a depth of advance knowledge and critical awareness of the most up to date practices and theories in mechatronics and computer systems engineering. The postgraduate programme will arm you with all you need to be able to create your own mechatronic systems that are smart and cognitive, developing them from imagination through to reality.
This course has many options for tailoring to a specialisation and bespoke experience; it is designed to be a broad yet challenging taught course, focusing on ensuring that you leave with a skillset that is required in industry. Program Outline
The course includes a number of self-contained, taught modules organised around the various areas of mechatronics engineering. There are a wide range of modules from which the students can choose from which includes: Highway and Railway Engineering, Automation and Robotics, Smart Industries and Digital Manufacturing, Intelligent Transport Systems, Wireless Signal Propagation and Machine Learning on Big Data.
The taught modules are complemented by a research dissertation project that you will undertake at the end of your course. This dissertation is your route to becoming an accredited chartered engineer.
There is a highly practical emphasis to our MSc. You will learn the theory and then apply it through working on projects in our extensive laboratories and during fieldwork.
These projects will provide you with the learning opportunities and practical skills you will need in your future career. You will graduate with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the most up-to-date practices in mechatronics engineering.
All modules include coursework, for which you will have opportunities to apply your knowledge to engineering projects related to real-life situations.
This coursework will include analysis and design projects, research reports, group and seminar presentations and a research dissertation project. You will also attend lectures, seminars and tutorials and you will work both individually and in groups. To support the hands-on nature of this course, we have an impressive range of facilities. You will have access to superb computer facilities and the very latest design software.

has been involved in research that includes vehicle-vehicle communication, IoT and future communication technologies such as 5G. Our MSc courses are some of the most flexible around. Engineers already employed in the industry have found that studying part-time can easily be tailored to suit their personal requirements.You'll be assessed through a written exam, laboratory-based coursework, and a dissertation or a major project. The written exam will be to test your theoretical knowledge and understanding.
Coursework will assess your practical based skills, while the dissertation would be for applying learning outcomes to a project related to design and development with applications in the industry.
