Chemical Engineering BEng (Hons)
The Chemical Engineering BEng (Hons) course is an innovative program that equips students with a broad range of knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the chemical and biochemical industry. The course is internationally accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Overview
Ranked no.3 in London by the Complete University Guide 2024, this course has been developed to provide students with a solid foundation in chemical engineering principles, as well as practical skills and experience. Students will have access to a new, modern laboratory with equipment and rigs for experimental work, and will use the latest industry-standard engineering software packages in purpose-built computer laboratories.
Course Content
The course is delivered over three years full-time, or four years full-time with a placement year. The placement year option provides students with the opportunity to gain professional experience in industry, preparing them for the world of work.

Brunel's pioneering chemical engineering courses have been designed in close collaboration with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) accreditation body to prepare students for an exciting and rewarding career in one of the fastest-growing engineering disciplines.
Entry Requirements
- A minimum of five GCSEs are required, including GCSE Mathematics grade C or grade 4 and GCSE English Language grade C or grade 4 or GCSE English Literature grade B or grade 5.
- A-level: Standard Offer - GCE A-level ABB including Maths and one of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Environment Studies, Computer Science, Electronics or Design and Technology.
- BTEC National Extended Diploma: Standard Offer - DDD in Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering with Distinctions in Engineering Principles and Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems.
- International Baccalaureate: Standard Offer - International Baccalaureate Diploma 31 points, including 5 in Higher Level Maths (Analysis and Approaches) and Higher Level 5 in one of the following subjects; Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Geography or Design Technology.
Fees and Funding
- UK: £9,535 full-time, £1,385 placement year
- International: £21,795 full-time, £1,385 placement year
Teaching and Learning
The course will be delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, laboratory work, computer simulation, debates, self-study, and project work. Lectures will be delivered live online or in-person on-campus, with some being pre-recorded and made available online. Tutorials and seminars will be held on campus, and laboratory classes will also be on campus.
Assessment and Feedback
Assessment will be through a combination of exams and assignments in the first two years, with assignment-based assessment only in the third year. This includes a final year major design project, which gives students the opportunity to put into practice their soft skills and technical abilities.
