Program Overview

Introduction

The HNC in Applied Sciences (Forensic Science) is designed to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the Forensic Science sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake it.

The course offers students a broad introduction to the forensic science and professional laboratory science via mandatory units, while allowing for the acquisition of specialist skills and experience through specialist forensic science modules. Students will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in evidence-based practice, personal research, self-study, directed study and workplace learning and experience.

The course is delivered at the University of Suffolk at East Coast College (Lowestoft). Students studying full-time on HNC in Applied Sciences (Forensic Science) are likely to have approximately 300hrs contact hours for level 4. The contact hours will be a mix of lectures, seminars, group work, VLE activity and practical activities including trips and visits (where available). Students will normally be expected to undertake 20 hours of independent study in an average week, but should be prepared for this to vary based on assignment deadlines and class exercises.
