The student should be able to:

  • Display an understanding of the electro physical principles utilised in dynamic ultrasound imaging and the principles of its practical applications
  • Display a critical understanding of the role of dynamic ultrasound imaging in musculoskeletal assessment and management

  • To develop the student's understanding of the role of dynamic ultrasound in the evaluation of soft tissue anatomy and musculoskeletal assessment.
  • To enable the student to make a knowledgeable and appropriate management choice informed by dynamic ultrasound.


  • Module content

    Overview of imaging in health care generally; Physical principles underpinning dynamic ultrasound; Health and Safety Issues in dynamic ultrasound; Role of Dynamic Ultrasound in:

    •    evaluation of normal and abnormal soft tissues

    •    biofeedback in rehabilitation

    •    management of injury/rehabilitation

    ASSESSMENT TYPE

    1. Case study of 2,000 words plus appropriate appendices based on real world anonymous patient data.  Weighted at 40%

    2. Interactive practical exam 30 minutes. Cover electro physical principles; practical application of dynamic ultrasound; interpretation of information and implications for patient management Weighted at 60%.
