Program Overview

Course overview

Our course is aimed at health professionals and graduates who wish to extend their knowledge, develop practical skills and apply their expertise in this popular area of study. It is also designed to help facilitate a career switch for others to work in the field of exercise and nutrition.

The ENS course was established in 1993 and its content is mapped against the competencies of nationally recognised professional bodies such as the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr), Register for Exercise Professionals (REPs) and the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). It is characterised by its multidisciplinary approach to the study of nutrition in relation to exercise and sport, is academically stimulating with an applied focus and is underpinned by evidence-based practice.

A key feature of this course is the application of theory to practice and in addition to the lectures, there are practical sessions, workshops and the opportunity to undertake a placement within a health, sport or exercise setting.

Why study this course with us?

The MSc is delivered by a team of leading-edge academics and national/international leaders in exercise and nutrition. This enables graduates to leave with the most up-to-date level of knowledge.

The key features of our course are:

  • The course is aligned with the competencies required for Graduate Registration on the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr)*
  • Opportunity for a placement in the exercise, health and sport industries
  • Choice of Research Project – individually led, work related, or as part of a current University research programme
  • Internationally renowned Guest Speakers on modules
  • Flexible course structure – modules delivered in three-day blocks every eight weeks.
  • *Application for SENr course endorsement in progress. Students who successfully complete this MSc and who also have an appropriate undergraduate degree are still eligible to apply for SENr Graduate Registration independently of course endorsement.

The course is highly flexible, allowing you to study full time or part time to suit your personal and work commitments. Flexibility is achieved through the delivery of modules over three-day blocks (see our Timetable) followed by eight weeks of campus- or home-based learning. This allows students nationally and internationally to attend the course.

Our course is delivered by a team of experienced academics and also practitioners who work in high-profile areas.
