Course Details
What you study
Through a process of advanced skill development, you undertake the routine physical examination of the newborn. The live sessions, recorded lectures and interactive work concentrate on the aspects of the NIPE examination as well as discussions on other complications and referrals. You develop originality in your application of comprehensive knowledge along with evidence-based practice through a variety of teaching and learning strategies.
How you learn
The module requires a level of independent study and commitment to the course. You are supported throughout the course and can access academic support for Level 7 writing and study skills through our online library services.
How you are assessed
You undertake a minimum of ten supervised neonatal examinations and a final examination of the newborn within your practice area. This includes an assessed professional discussion covering your ability to recognise abnormality in the newborn and take appropriate action following this. These examinations form your portfolio, alongside evidence of individual learning. You also complete a 30-minute online exam of multiple choice questions which will include scenario and problem-solving questions.
