Program Overview


Overview of the University of Kent

The University of Kent offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including the Animal Science (top-up) BA (Hons) program. This program is designed to be a progression route for students who have successfully completed the HND in Applied Animal Science or equivalent award.


The Animal Science (top-up) BA (Hons) Program

The Animal Science (top-up) BA (Hons) program is a one-year, full-time course taught at Canterbury College and awarded by the University of Kent. The program provides students with access to well-equipped laboratories and an animal centre, and includes a range of modules covering anthrozoology, wildlife heritage, pathology and immunology, and animal science.

The six modules studied will be selected from:


  • Animal Adaptations
  • Clinical Animal Behaviour
  • Pathology and Immunology
  • Conservation and Wildlife Heritage
  • Animal Reproduction
  • Anthrozoology
  • Clinical Animal Science There will also be an independent research project which will be undertaken alongside the taught modules.

Teaching and Assessment

Assessment is by coursework projects, essays, presentations, and examinations. Delivery is through lectures, seminars, and tutorials, normally over three days a week.


Entry Requirements

International students cannot be admitted to this program at this time due to visa restrictions.


  • English Language Requirements: This course requires a Good level of English language, equivalent to B2 on CEFR.
  • Examples:
    • IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component
    • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English Language
    • IB Standard Level Grade 5 or above in English A: Language and Literature
    • A Level Grade C or above in English Language or English Literature.
  • Students will need at least a Merit grade at HND in Applied Animal Science or other relevant discipline or a foundation degree with a value of 240 credits.

Fees and Funding

The 2024/25 fees for this course are £6,000 per annum full-time for UK students.

  • IT Equipment: Students will require regular access to a desktop computer/laptop with an internet connection to use the University of Kent’s online resources and systems.
