Program Overview


MSc Business Analytics

The MSc Business Analytics degree from Robert Gordon University is designed to prepare students to work with and analyze data effectively to inform business decisions and processes. Students will learn to design, commission, manage, and deliver data projects and develop the skills and knowledge required to access, analyze, and visualize data for business applications.

It brings together a community of data professionals and academics to bridge this skills gap and provides students with the necessary knowledge and tools for a successful career.

What You Will Study

The course is divided into three stages:


  1. Stage 1: Students will develop the knowledge and skills to select appropriate tools and techniques to collect and manage data and to develop decision-making processes based on data analysis.
  2. Stage 2: Students will learn to employ data visualization and business intelligence software to explore, analyze, and present data for a range of audiences.
  3. Stage 3: Students will research, develop, and deliver a Business Analytics project, integrating the skills and knowledge developed in the earlier stages of the course.

Activity Summary

Students will engage with the course through online or on-campus learning materials, lectures, tutorials, industry-led workshops, and live client projects. These comprise a mix of group study, discussion, simulation, and presentations of findings by teams and individuals.

Feedback

Staff Delivering on This Course

The teaching team has industry, professorial, and doctoral knowledge of underpinning subjects. They bring experience from a variety of professional backgrounds, including computing, digital marketing, digital media, e-commerce, data management, and information management.


Independent Study

The course requires students to become independent 'open learners' and take responsibility for when, where, and how their learning occurs. Students will spend approximately 15-20 hours per week working on their own, undertaking research, preparing for group activities, and preparing for class activities.

The Inclusion Centre advises and supports students who disclose a sensory or mobility impairment, chronic medical condition, mental health issue, dyslexia, and other specific learning differences.


Online Learning & Support

All undergraduate and postgraduate students, whether learning on campus or by online learning, benefit from using the University's collaborative virtual learning environment, Moodle.

The Study Support Team provides training and support to all students in:

Library Support

The Library offers support for the course, including the books, eBooks, and journals students will need. The Library also offers online reading lists for many modules, workshops, and drop-ins on searching skills and referencing.

This course does not feature a separate placement, but it features industry projects throughout, ensuring students leave with a portfolio of industry projects on their CV and an enhanced professional network.

There is considerable demand for individuals who can initiate and manage data analytics projects, understand legal and ethical considerations in working with data, shape data cultures across organizations, and communicate the results of data science and analytics projects to a range of stakeholders and audiences.

Entry Requirements

Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honors degree or its equivalent in any subject area. Applicants with a lower degree classification and/or relevant work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.


English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.
