MSc Construction Project Management

The MSc Construction Project Management degree is a fully accredited course that develops the technical, managerial, and interpersonal skills necessary for the management of complex construction projects. This industry-driven course equips students with the competencies needed to meet the challenges of today's technologies, working relationships, and project-related risks.

Course Overview

The course provides opportunities for students to pursue their own personal objectives in areas such as management, procurement, and construction law, accounting management, and consultancy and research in the architecture, engineering, and construction sector. It is suitable for both experienced practitioners in the industry and those just starting their careers.

• On Campus: Full-time
• Online Learning: Part-time

Start Dates and Course Length

The course starts in September and January, with the following course lengths:

• On Campus: 12 months (September start), 16 months (January start)
• Online Learning: 36 months

Course Content

The course covers various aspects of construction project management, including:

• Core discipline and processes of Construction Project Management theory and practices
• Management of complex design processes from concept design through Building Information Systems (BIM) to detail design, procurement, construction, and post-completion maintenance and decommissioning
• Skills in consultancy and research in the Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector

Stages 1 & 2

Students are introduced to the core discipline and processes of Construction Project Management theory and practices. They develop an understanding of how to manage complex design processes and enhance their skills in consultancy and research in the AEC sector.

Stage 3

Students can choose from two options:

• Work-based Experience Route: Full-time on-campus students can engage in work-based experience for up to 16 weeks, gaining experience and gathering information relevant to the completion of a research document.
• Dissertation Route: Full-time on-campus and online students undertake an industry-based research dissertation of 12-15,000 words, which can be integrated into their workplace.

Assessment

Students are typically assessed through:

• Written assignments, including essays
• Dissertations

Entry Requirements

Applicants normally hold a 2:2 undergraduate honors degree or its equivalent. Those with a lower degree classification and/or relevant work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5, or an equivalent.

Fees and Funding

The course fees vary depending on the mode of study and the student's location:

• Scottish Students: Ł7,250 (full-time on-campus), Ł3,550 (part-time online)
• Rest of UK Students: Ł7,250 (full-time on-campus), Ł3,550 (part-time online)
• International Students: Ł17,330 (full-time on-campus), Ł3,550 (part-time online)
