Program start date | Application deadline |
2023-09-18 | 2023-05-05 |
Program Overview
This workshop is an introduction to hand building with clay. During the weekend you will learn up to four different hand building techniques. Using the skills learnt you will build a final piece which can be bisque fired using the kiln in our ceramics workshop.
Program Outline
Throughout the workshop, you will be taught basic skills such as wedging clay, forming a thumb pot, a coil pot and a slump pot. Whilst gaining an understanding of why clay is wedged, you will also be taught how to apply texture and be introduced to the use of coloured slips.
In addition to this, you will learn the process of rolling and cutting slabs of clay along with the basic skills required to form a 5-sided slab pot. Selecting one of the skills learnt, you will build a final piece to which you can add texture and/or colour using the coloured slips introduced.
Your final piece can then be bisque fired using the kiln located in our purpose-built ceramics workshop. When its ready, your own hand-built piece can be collected at a later date.
