Program Overview


The Gaelic Studies and Spanish & Latin American Studies program at the University of Aberdeen combines the study of Gaelic language, literature, and culture with Hispanic Studies. Gaelic Studies and Spanish & Latin American Studies

Program Description:

  • Years 1 and 2: Students will focus on developing their language skills in both Gaelic and Spanish.
  • They will also take introductory courses in Gaelic and Spanish literature and culture.
  • Year 3: Students will spend a year abroad in a Spanish-speaking country.
  • This will allow them to further develop their language skills and gain firsthand experience of the culture.
  • Years 4 and 5: Students will complete their studies by taking advanced courses in Gaelic and Spanish language, literature, and culture.
  • They will also have the opportunity to conduct independent research and write a thesis.
