Introduction

The program adds to students' highly-developed language and cultural skills in German with the opportunity to study, compose, and perform music alongside world-renowned composers and musicologists. Students will gain a solid grounding in the German language, develop a broad understanding of culture in the German-speaking world, and encounter the world of German artistic expression.

    • Plus 30 credit points from Music courses at level 2

Year 3

  • Compulsory Courses:
    • German Junior Honours Language Study (GM3069)
  • Optional Courses:
    • Select a further 60 credit points from level 3 courses in German, plus 45 credit points from level 3 courses in Music.

Year 4

  • Compulsory Courses:
    • German Language Study for Senior Honours (GM4099)
  • Optional Courses:
    • Select ONE of the following dissertation options:
      • Dissertation in German (GM4052)
      • Dissertation in Music (MU4049)
    • Select further credit points from level 4 courses in German to gain 75 credits in the discipline, plus select level 3 or 4 courses in Music to gain 45 credits in the discipline.

  • Qualifications:
    • SQA Highers: AABB (or better)
    • A LEVELS: BBB (or better)
    • International Baccalaureate: 32 points, including 5, 5, 5 at HL
    • Irish Leaving Certificate: 5H with 3 at H2 AND 2 at H3
