Program Overview

Media Production (Film and Television) MA

Overview

The MA Media Production (Film and Television) course is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge, experience, and confidence to be employable in the film, TV, and media industry. The course is made up of four core practical modules and has been awarded the ScreenSkills Select accreditation.

Course Structure

  • Postgraduate Certificate stage:
    • Craft Skills (60 credits) This module allows students to spend time studying camera, moving camera, lighting, sound, editing, colour grading, and script writing. Students work in small production groups to produce four production assignments.
  • Postgraduate Diploma stage:
    • Mini Project (30 credits) Students work within a production team and establish the nature and purpose of their project. They attend a series of production progress meetings and workshops to formulate an agreed schedule of events to help them effectively complete their identified project.
    • Production Management and Online Content Creation (30 credits) The production management part of this module is designed to heighten students' understanding and skills in the role of production manager. The online content creation part of the module allows students to explore how digital convergence changed the way in which we consume and produce video content.
  • Master's stage:
    • Major Practical Media Project (60 credits) In this module, students produce a major piece of media work, which may be fictional, factual, or a blend of the two. Students are encouraged to work on multi-platform elements of the same project.
