Dance (Level 6) BA (Hons)

Course Overview

BA (Hons) Dance (Level 6) is a unique degree that offers vocational and academic training across dance genres. You’ll develop technique, performance, and choreography skills while undertaking practical research in the realm of dance. This final year programme offers you the opportunity to create your own work and hone your performance skills in our purpose-built dance and performing arts studios.


Study Style

This course focuses on the importance of being open to different vocational styles and industry sectors. Physical training and embodied knowledge are highly valued on this course and viewed as integral to academic development. Theory, research, and analysis underpin and enhance experiential learning across all modules. This is an ideal course for those wishing to:


  • Study a wide variety of dance styles experientially and academically.
  • Develop skills to perform and choreograph.
  • Academically and experientially explore different philosophical approaches to the body in dance performance and choreography.

Entry Requirements

  • HND, Diploma of Higher Education or Foundation degree
    • Applicants should possess an HND, Diploma of Higher Education or Foundation degree.
  • Foundation or Extended Diploma
    • We welcome applicants with a pass in a relevant Foundation or Extended Diploma (Level 3 or 4).
  • Mature students
    • We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.
  • International students
    • Please read the entry requirements for your country – and contact our admissions team if you have questions.
  • Additional requirements
    • English Language or Literature and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.

  • Dissertation (DP6503)
    • This module aims to equip students with key skills in designing and conducting an independent research project. Students will develop a research proposal and then undertake an extensive piece of research demonstrating the required level of knowledge and skills in their chosen subject area. Each student will be allocated a research project supervisor.

      • 001: 100% Dissertation / Major Project: 9,000 words or equivalent
  • Advanced Dance Techniques (DP6903)
    • This module is recommended for students aiming to pursue a career in dance that involves attainment of a high level of technical skill in dance techniques of their choice.
    • Scheduled Contact Hours: 36
    • Independent Learning Hours: 114
    • Assessment
      • 001: 100% Show, Display or Performance: 50 minutes
  • Dance Performance 3 (DP6906)
    • In this module students will continue to build on the diverse range of choreographic and creative skills achieved at levels 4 and 5 and explore differing space, environments and/or contexts to produce unique performances.
    • Learning and Teaching Activities
      • 001: 100% Show, Display or Performance: 40 Minutes
  • Advanced Teaching Practice (DP6907)
    • This module will allow students to expand their teaching experience through studio practice and teaching placements. Aimed at developing the competencies built during DP5905: The Dance Teacher, this module focuses on developing advanced teaching techniques that will apply to a range of settings. Through teaching placements in the community and education settings, students will implement these techniques into their practice.

    • Assessment
      • 001: 100% Portfolio: Individual: 2500 words or equivalent
  • Advanced Choreography (DP6909)
    • This module encourages learners to explore their individual choreographic practice in an applied way. Under the supervision of a choreographic mentor, students will use their artistic voice to create and develop a substantial piece of choreography, which will culminate in a live or screened performance at UoG Dance Degree’s annual choreographic platform.

      • 001: 50% Show, Display or Performance: 20 minutes
      • 002: 50% Oral Exam: 20 minutes
