Program Overview
What is Digital Forensics BSc (Hons)?
Immerse yourself in all aspects of cyber forensics, gaining essential skills in revealing how cybercrime has happened and who is responsible. Developing enquiry and analysis skills, you’ll learn how to gather and present evidence as an expert witness in criminal and civil investigations.
Computer and Cyber Forensics focuses on investigating a cybercrime after it has been committed. All students on this course adhere to the Association of Chief Police Officers’ (ACPO) guidelines. These standards lead the development of official forensic investigation practices and are adhered to by law enforcement and commercial computer forensic organisations worldwide.
A £1,000 subject award bursary is available for this course for 2023 entry UK UCAS applicants.
You’ll use industry software including AccessData FTK – a sector standard in digital investigation technology – and a range of tools that analyse and recover information from mobile devices. You’ll be taught by lecturers with significant industry experience as well as guest lectures from industry practitioners. Previous visitors have included professionals from BT, Raytheon, CGI and Hewlett Packard.
Study style
The majority of your learning is practical, using industry-standard tools, techniques and practices. Alongside lectures, you’ll undertake group work and individual projects. There are no exams on this course – all assessments are done through individual coursework.
You’ll learn in our new purpose-built School of Computing and Technology. We have a dedicated cyber lab where you can practice your skills in a digitally protected environment – with purpose-built break-out areas for workshop sessions, games consoles and screens in social areas, and the latest computing technology and software. There’s a strong sense of community, with staff and students sharing work, relaxation space, ideas and creativity.

Web Development (CT4034)
This module covers the business rationale for using the web as a solution to a business problem, together with the core technologies required to create such solutions. Students will create structured websites using both scripts (e.g., html, CSS; JavaScript, php, MySql) and industry-standard software (e.g., Adobe DreamWeaver). The module would be suited to a student in any computing field who wishes to obtain an understanding of the Internet, its facilities and technologies and gain experience in production techniques.

The aim of this module is to build on the network design and implementation principles from module CT5047. The objective is to defend and protect the network infrastructure, architecture, protocols and applications in order to deliver secured protocols, applications, services and data. The cyber security framework of identifying, protecting, detecting, responding and recovery in relation to network security will be evaluated and critically analysed during the module.

Network Forensics (CT6047)
Network forensics is a sub-branch of digital forensics relating to the extraction, analysis and reporting of computer networks and traffic for the purposes of information gathering, and legal evidence for digital forensics investigation.
The aim of the module is to provide students with both theoretical and practical hands-on experience in capturing, recording and analysis of network events in order to discover evidential information about the source of security attacks and crimes involving digital evidence.

This course is available with an integrated foundation year to help you prepare. A degree with an integrated foundation year starts your studies with a year spent learning the skills required to progress onto a full honours degree.
