Materiality and the Built Environment (AD4617)

This module introduces students to the principles of materiality and building construction through an understanding of the relationships and needs of humans in built and natural environments in relation to sustainability. Students will explore and investigate historic and contemporary uses and design within interior spaces, as well as establishing an understanding of key building technology by introducing typical building construction techniques and methods within historic and contemporary buildings, as well as the principles of environmental design and building services. Students will explore materials, their properties, selection and application within interior projects, as well understand the methods to represent and communicate to a range of target audiences.

History and Theory of Art and Architecture (AD4620)

The module introduces students to the history and theory of architecture, arts and urban settlement, as well as the ways of seeing and evaluating architecture. It explores the influence of socio-political, economic, cultural, artistic, technological and environmental issues that influence the development of architecture and associated technologiesphilosophies, as well as settlements planning and design within the UK and abroad.

Representation and Communication Strategies 1 (AD4621)

The module provides an introduction to visual and spatial communication methods within architecture and constructed environments. Exploring traditional drawing, graphic techniques, model making, digital media and other representational tools as valuable means by which to encounter the world; introduce students to the fundamental frameworks from which greater design awareness. The module will also introduce students to professional practice and time management components.

Architectural Studio 1.1 (AD4623)

This module introduces you to studio working, the essential understanding of body, space and object, as well as the three-dimensional thinking through the generation of a range of small 3d architectural projects. Students will show design development from initial idea, concept, through to the understanding and relationship with space and context, exploring an understanding of site analysis design process.

Architectural Studio 1.2 (AD4624)

This module introduces students to the stages of the design process, with an emphasis on investigation when developing project briefs. Reference will be made to precedent and principles in the fields of architecture and arts. Through an individually developed brief and design proposition, students are led to apply fundamental principles in the development of a moderately complex architectural intervention or the development of small building projects.

Level 5 (Undergraduate year 2)

Representation and Communication Strategies 2 (AD5621)

This is the second in a series of three related modules which relate to visualisation and communication in architectural design. These modules are closely related to other modules including the Architectural and Interior Architectural studio modules. This module focuses on advanced and emerging visualisation and digital technologies such as Building information modelling [BIM], developing essential professional skills in the use of techniques and tools which enable visualisation, communication and evaluation of design proposals at various stages of the design process.

Interior Architecture Studio 2.1 (AD5655)

This module, part of a suite of design modules running through the Interior Architecture and Design course enables students to explore and develop real creative practice-based solutions for building interventions and or alterations to a range of existing spaces. Over the course ofthis module you will enhance your understanding of site and client context, critically evaluating the brief and creatively exploring opportunities individually and collaboratively to develop creative concepts with strong narratives and well defined experiential spaceswhich relate to coveredpublic streets, piazzas, retail and hospitality enviroments.

Interior Architecture studio 2.2 (AD5656)

This module, part of a suite of design modules running through the Interior Architecture and Design course enables students to explore and develop real creative practice-based solutions for building interventions and or alterations to a range of existing spaces. You will enhance your understanding of site and client context,critically evaluating the brief and creatively exploring opportunities to develop creative concepts with strong narratives and well defined experiential spaces

Building Technology and Construction 2 (AD5657)

In professional practise, the work of an Interior Architectural designer is varied and involves work with existing building structures as well as new builds in commercial and domestic sectors. Working with the aesthetic and form of the host architectural structure, the designer breathes life into the new spaces. This requires a complex understanding of how buildings’ are made, materiality, environmental considerations,as well as the regulatory frameworks.

History and Theory of Contemporary Interior Architecture (AD5658)

This module part of a suite of modules allows students to investigate the contemporary context of the profession of Arts, Architecture and Interior Architecture, through the study of artistic, architectural, environmental, social, cultural and economic factors that have and are influencing the design and development of architecture, products, fashion and everyday objects in all walks of life across the globe. The module will include an opportunity to explore supported and unsupported visits to exhibitions and influential architecturewhilst concentrating on publicand urban interior environments.

Professional Engagement (AD5662)

The module forms first steps in engaging students with professional conduct and ethics. The module includes activities that relate toresource gathering and formation of communications and relations with material manufacturers, engagementwith state of art new technologies and how these can be used to deliver, presentand express projectsto clients whilst underlaying the importance of ethics and sustainability behind them

Business and Enterprise for Design (AD6006)

Knowledge and understanding of business and entrepreneurship are increasingly being identified as critical factor in ensuring economic competitiveness and employability to creative design graduates. This module aims to equip the student with skills and knowledge in creative thinking to encourage divergent, rather than convergent thinking in a number of business settings and also to equip the student with knowledge about how innovation, risk and an opportunity-seeking attitude come together in the notion of the business or social entrepreneur.

Professional Promotion (AD6007)

This module offers students the opportunity to explore their creative aspirations and skills in self -promotion in a professional context. Continuing their professional practice and self -development through a range of promotion platforms, gaining knowledge and understanding of communicating to identified audiences through the utilisation of promotional activities and tools.

Critical Reflections (AD6620)

In this module, you will explore and define a specific research topic, undertaking research into and analysis of your related topic or discipline specific practice. You will present your position in the form of a written dissertation, bringing together knowledge and skills that you have acquired in your first two years of study.
