Overview

Physiotherapy is a science-based healthcare profession where practitioners use their skills to improve and manage a wide range of medical conditions. Physiotherapists help people affected by illness, injury, or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education, and advice.

Entry Requirements

  • Typical Offers:
    • 128 UCAS tariff points, ABB at A levels including a grade B or above in Biology, Human Biology, or PE.
    • DDD at BTEC when the core subject is science-based, or a Merit in your T-Level in a science-based subject.
  • Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE course in a science-based subject or Health Professions. Applicants required to meet 136 tariff points (example of achieving this would be 39 distinctions and 6 merits).
  • Entry to this course is by interview.
  • An understanding of the Physiotherapist role and evidence of work experience in Physiotherapy or similar caring is also useful.
  • Additional requirements:
    • English Language and Maths Grade 4/C in GCSE (or equivalent) are normally required.
  • DBS and health check required:
    • In order to study this course, offer holders will need to complete a satisfactory DBS and Health Clearance check.
  • Mature students:
    • We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.
  • International students:
    • Please read the entry requirements for your country – and contact our admissions team if you have questions.
  • English language requirements:
    • If English is not your first language, you are required to provide a language test certificate as evidence of proficiency. This needs to be at Academic IELTS at 7.0 with no element below 6.5 in all sections of the test.

Fees and Costs

Students applying for this course may be eligible for the NHS Learning Support Fund, which provides a non-repayable training grant of £5,000 per academic year, plus an additional £2,000 for students who have parental responsibility. An additional £1,000 allowance is available for students studying a specialist subject.

  • Physiotherapists are in high demand. You could work for the NHS, private healthcare, education and research, or set up your own business. Physiotherapists may choose to stay general in their clinical careers or specialise in a certain area. For example, you might choose to work in paediatrics, in-patient hospital care, rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, and sports injury to name a few.

Placements

  • To prepare for your future as a Physiotherapist, your studies will include practice placements in a variety of NHS and private voluntary independent health and care settings. These will give you a breadth of diverse experiences to meet Professional Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements for the role.
