Paramedic Science BSc (Hons)

Course Overview

Start your career as a Paramedic in a challenging and rewarding programme developed in partnership with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT). If you’re looking for an exhilarating and rewarding career as a Paramedic working at the frontline of healthcare, our Paramedic Science degree will equip you with the tools and experience you need to be successful.


Study Style

We developed our curriculum in partnership with key Gloucestershire healthcare organisations and service users – making sure to include the right mix of classroom and experiential learning. You’ll build both your medical knowledge and patient care experience, preparing you to make life-saving interventions in unpredictable and pressurised situations and environments.


Entry Requirements

  • Typical Offers:
    • 112 UCAS tariff points, BBC at A levels with one subject preferably in a science, DMM at BTEC to include 6 units in a Science or Health Science subject, 2:2 or above in a previous degree, or a Merit in your T-Level in a science or health-related subject.
    • Access to HE Diploma from a QAA recognised Access to HE course in a health or science based subject. Applicants are required to meet 112 tariff points (example of achieving this would be 24 distinctions and 15 merits and 6 passes or 21D, 18M and 6P).
  • Additional requirements:
    • You must have a minimum of five subjects at GCSE grade 4/C or above, to include English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
    • DBS and health check required: In order to study this course, offer holders will need to complete a satisfactory DBS and Health Clearance check.
    • Mature students: We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants, although some entry requirements may still apply for Professionally Accredited Courses. We accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas and make offers on an individual basis.
    • International students: Please read the entry requirements for your country – and contact our admissions team if you have questions.
    • English language requirements: If English is not your first language, you are required to provide a language test certificate as evidence of proficiency. This needs to be at Academic IELTS at 7.0 with no element below 6.5 in all sections of the test.

Careers

You’ll be inspired by experienced paramedics and other healthcare professionals in practice settings, drawing on their professional expertise as you work alongside them to face a variety of real-world challenges. Taking advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities including simulated medical settings, you’ll learn from accomplished lecturers with extensive knowledge of the pre-hospital care field.


After completing this course can apply to register as a paramedic with the HCPC and pursue a career as a paramedic within NHS or private ambulance services.


Graduates could also pursue careers in other NHS and private healthcare settings – such as minor injuries units, health surgeries and emergency care teams. With a qualification recognised in many countries around the world, you may even be able to work in overseas healthcare settings (subject to their right to work).


Placements

To prepare for your future as Paramedic your studies will include practice placements in a variety of NHS and private voluntary independent health and care settings, which will give you a breadth of diverse experiences to meet Professional Statutory Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements for the role.
