What is Chartered Manager Apprenticeship BA (Hons)?

Our Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship is designed for both talented career entrants as well as those looking to progress further in their management role. It enables learners to gain a full BA (Hons) degree, a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management, and Chartered Manager status, all whilst specialising in their chosen area of business management.

Outline

Accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), this apprenticeship ensures learners develop the essential skills, knowledge and experience needed and provides a professional pathway for the leaders of the future.

Learners will complete a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management as part of their studies, which means they will be equipped with the skills and commercial insight to make a real difference in the ever-changing world of business.

In the first year, learners will gain solid grounding in all aspects of business and management. In the second and third years, learners will continue to develop knowledge and expertise in business and management but also choose a specialist area – either business and management, human resource management, entrepreneurship & innovation, digital business or business law.

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will draw on the expertise of lecturers with extensive professional credentials and research experience, as well as learning from inspiring industry guest speakers. They will also benefit from the cutting-edge facilities on offer at our state-of-the-art, Gloucestershire Business School.

Study style and assessment

Teaching is delivered over three years and modules are delivered as blocks of learning. At the end of each block, apprentices submit an assessment before they move on to the next. This helps learners maintain a work/life balance, while ensuring progression through the programme.

There is an emphasis on real-world challenges and workplace application throughout the assessments. This means our teaching approach is focused on learner engagement in activities and tasks rather than formal lectures.

The assessments reflect the varied nature of a business professional’s work – for example, learners are required to write reports, give presentations and undertake business planning. There are also examinations and reflective assessments. Many assessments focus on the learner’s own organisations or industry, meaning they are able to use their new skills to have an immediate impact on business performance.

There’s also an End Point Assessment (EPA) which is an independent assessment that takes place after the final year of the apprenticeship. This is to test that the learner is competent in their occupation by assessing the knowledge, skills and behaviour (KSB) outcomes detailed in the approved Apprenticeship Standard. For this degree apprenticeship, the EPA consists of three components:

submission of the learning portfolio of evidence of professional development;

submission of the results of the Chartered Manager Applied Project;

a presentation, followed by an interview.

All apprentices must pass their EPA to successfully complete their apprenticeship and academic degree.

Support

Learners

have a personal tutor throughout their apprenticeship, as well as a learner coach who conducts reviews (tripartite meetings with apprentices, employers and the university, aimed to track progress and provide extra guidance where needed) and supports them towards successful completion. Learners are also supported by module tutors and our Helpzone staff, who are contactable by telephone, in person and online.
