Introduction to the Doctor of Psychology in Forensic Psychology

The Doctor of Psychology in Forensic Psychology (DPsych in Forensic Psychology) is a research-based professional doctoral course designed for practicing forensic psychologists. The program aims to develop reflective researching practitioners who can further their knowledge, understanding, skills, and attributes in a specialist area of forensic psychology.

About the Course

The DPsych in Forensic Psychology is a two and a half year part-time research-based program that allows experienced practicing forensic psychologists to develop their expertise. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to engage in continuous reflection on themselves, their practice, and their research, ensuring they develop as reflective researching practitioners.

Students will develop their ability to design and implement independent and original research at the boundaries of knowledge of forensic psychology.

The course comprises two modules designed to allow students to tailor their learning towards an area of forensic psychology that interests them.

The program enables students to explore the complex relationships between knowledge, theory, and practice in forensic psychology and understand the sector and how to influence it.

What You'll Study

The DPsych in Forensic Psychology provides students with the opportunity to explore complex relationships between knowledge, theory, and practice in forensic psychology. Students will develop as reflective researching practitioners through the synthesis of practice with research and will design and implement independent and original research.

Module Information

The course includes two modules:

• Foundations in Research: This module aims to develop research competence suitable for undertaking the DPsych thesis portfolio.
• Thesis Portfolio: The aim of this module is to develop doctoral-level researching practitioners in the field of forensic psychology.

Entry Requirements

UK Students

• All applicants must have a British Psychological Society chartership with Full Membership of the Division of Forensic Psychology or Health and Care Professions registration as a Forensic Psychologist.
• A Master's-level qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject, including research teaching and assessment.
• Recommended: five years of experience in a forensic setting or at least two years of experience post-training.
• Applicants will be required to provide two academic references.
• Final selection is based on an interview with members of the course team.

International Students

• Same requirements as UK students, with additional information on international entry requirements and English language requirements.

Fees and Funding

UK Students

• £3,700 per year, with information on doctoral loans, studentships, and funded projects.

International Students

• £3,700 per year, with information on payment advice, scholarships, and living costs.

The program is based at NTU's City Campus, which offers a dedicated learning environment, specialist research laboratories, and excellent facilities, including the Boots Library and a range of cafés, bars, and restaurants.
