Program Outline
Degree Overview:
This short course provides an introduction to digital animation using Adobe Animate CC and Wacom Cintiq tablets. It is designed for students with little or no previous animation knowledge. The course aims to equip students with the skills to continue developing their portfolio and potentially pursue a career in animation.
Outline:
The course is delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University's city campus and consists of 25 contact hours of tuition. The course is structured as follows:
- Session 1: Digital animation
- Session 2: Easing
- Session 3: Timing & Spacing, Ball bounce
- Session 4: Balloon studies, Character design
Teaching:
The course is taught by experienced tutor Teagan Ball, who has taught animation at degree level for many years. She is a self-employed animator and short animated film director, and has also worked in the industry creating animations and graphics for online games and mobile media. Teagan brings her knowledge of current trends in the animation industry to her short courses.
Careers:
The course is designed to give students a real experience of university life, make new friends who share similar interests and develop their portfolio. The Digital Screen Arts industry is growing exponentially. Previous students have gone on to study or work in games art and design, visual effects art and direction, and animation. On successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of attendance, which will further enhance their CV.

- The course promotes a creative studio culture that encourages discussion, collaboration, experimentation, and the swapping of ideas.
- Students will have access to industry-standard software and hardware, including Adobe Animate, Wacom Cintiq Touch Tablets, and Pro Creative Pens.
- Students will also have access to the university library for research and referencing.
- The course can count as a Gold DofE Residential.
- Social events are hosted by NTU Student Ambassadors on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
