Program Overview


Goldsmiths' MA Dramaturgy & Writing for Performance program nurtures aspiring dramaturges and playwrights, fostering their unique writing styles and understanding of live performance. Through collaborations, industry-led final projects, and career support, graduates excel in various roles within the theatre and performance industry.

Program Outline

It focuses on the writing process for live performance and includes constant evaluation of the work in progress.


Objectives:

  • Develop a distinct, individual approach as a writer and dramaturge.
  • Work on projects like site-specific work, writing for specific audiences, verbatim theatre, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Develop texts for performance and refine understanding of diverse forms and contexts of live performance.
  • Experienced permanent staff and visiting tutors, including Ian Rickson, April De Angelis, Duncan Macmillan, Penny Black, and Hanna Slattne.
  • Interdisciplinary project opportunities with MA Performance Makers and composers from the Department of Music.
  • Final project texts performed and directed by industry professionals at the Soho Theatre in London, attended by key representatives.
  • High success rate for graduates in obtaining commissions, dramaturgy posts, and artistic directorships.
  • Professional Orientation and career development support.

For Home Students and EU Students:

  • You should have (or expect to be awarded) an undergraduate degree of at least upper second class standard in a relevant/related subject.
  • You might also be considered for some programmes if you aren’t a graduate or your degree is in an unrelated field, but have relevant experience and can show that you have the ability to work at postgraduate level.

For International Students:

  • Goldsmiths accepts a wide range of international qualifications.
