The program is an intensive pre-sessional English language program designed for international students who are about to begin full-time studies at a UK university. It familiarizes students with the British education system, develops their study skills, and is tailored to the arts and social sciences. The program covers English language, academic study skills, cultural background studies, and critical analysis. Assessment is through regular assignments, including listening exercises, presentations, and essays. Students receive a profile of their performance and recommendations for future language development.

Program Length and Dates:
The program is offered in three durations:
- 12 weeks: June 10 - August 30, 2024
- 9 weeks: July 1 - August 30, 2024
- 6 weeks: July 22 - August 30, 2024

Structure:
- 21 hours of online learning per week
- Three hours of guided independent study and webinars/tutorials
- Five lectures during the final five weeks covering key themes across Goldsmiths disciplines
- Daily lessons with recorded lectures and flipped classes
- 10 hours of independent self-study per week
Assessment:
- Formative written assignments throughout the program
- Summative assessment includes:
- Analysis of sources (including a library source)
- Annotated notes on sources
- Draft of an argumentative essay with thesis statement
- Final essay based on feedback
- Joint presentation on sustainability
- Listening to summary assessment

Assessment:

Summative assessment includes an analysis of sources, annotated notes on sources, a draft of an argumentative essay with thesis statement, a final essay based on feedback, a joint presentation on sustainability, and a listening to summary assessment.
Teaching:
The program utilizes a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, tutorials, and independent study. Entry Requirements
EU Home Students:
- Academic qualifications:
- A minimum of 120 credits gained at level 3 (such as A levels, BTECs or a Higher National Diploma)
- A minimum of two subjects at grade C or above on the GCE A level
- A minimum of 10 credits at level 3 in English Language and Mathematics (unless these are achieved at level 2)
- English language requirements: GCSE English Language at grade C or above (or equivalent)
- Additional requirements:
- A personal statement
- Two references
- An interview (may be required)
International Overseas Students:
- Academic qualifications:
- An equivalent of a UK bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 60% average
- English language requirements:
- IELTS 6.5 overall, with no individual skill below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT 90 overall, with no individual score below 20
- Pearson PTE Academic 62 overall, with no individual score below 54
- Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) 176 overall, with no individual skill below 169
- Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) 180 overall, with no individual skill below 176
- Duolingo English Test 120 overall, with no individual score below 100
- Additional requirements:
- A certified copy of your academic transcripts
- A personal statement
- Two references
