Research opportunities
This Master of Research represents a unique opportunity for students to conduct a substantial research project in the area of Speech & Language Sciences undertaken over one year. Students will gain important research skills by taking at least one 20-credit research training class from the following:
C8939
- Quantitative Research Methods in PsychologyC8990
- Research Methods in Clinical Health PsychologyThis will prepare them well for their dissertation, which represents a significant component of the course. The MRes is suitable for recent graduates, who wish to advance their research skills in the field as well as candidates, who wish to consider subsequent PhD studies. MRes students will be supported by two supervisors throughout their studies.

Course content
The MRes involves a minimum of 20 credits of a taught element (strong focus on research methods skills) and 160 credits of independent research study supported by members of the academic research team.

C8939 - Quantitative Research Methods in Psychology
This class aims to provide advanced training in quantitative statistics, and to equip students with the statistical knowledge that is needed to support the interpretation of results from previous research.
C8990 - Research Methods in Clinical Health Psychology
This class covers a range of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, and explores relevant research aspects of clinical health such as evidence, evaluation, ethical issues and experimental designs.
Dissertation in Speech & Language Sciences
This dissertation module forms the main part of the MRes and is worth 160 credits. Students will undertake a piece of extended, independent research on a chosen topic related to speech and language sciences under the supervision of a staff member from the Speech & Language Therapy team.
